First recorded July 2000. Old records are insufficiently documented to be acceptable. Adults have been seen in a number of sites in Wexford. These sightings represent either an immigration this year or possibly an already established population. The flight period in Britain extends from early June to late August, exceptionally later. Adults frequent well-vegetated natural and artificial ponds and small lakes.

This species is unlikely to be confused with any other Irish dragonfly.

KEY IDENTIFICATION FEATURES

• Mature males and females are unlike any other resident Irish species
