Origin : New Zealand Common in gardens of Northern Ireland, especially near the coast. It produces its flowers in long racemes on shoots about 2.5 m long. Leaves long and narrow. There are many variations in colour of leaves, including variegated forms. |

Used as a traditional source of textile fibre by the Maoris, hence the English name.
