A very attractive bulbous perennial, with all its flowering parts in threes, excellent for woodland planting. World-wide (N America, W Himalayas, N E Asia), there are about 30 species, and quite a few cultivars of garden worth.There is a pink-flowered form, T. grandiflorum f. roseum, which is said to have originated in the Daisy Hill Nursery.

Introduced in 1799.
