Site Description
Description:
These are the caves associated with the underground course of the Sruh Croppa River, not directly connected to Marble Arch Cave.

The caves are distributed in a linear pattern along the course of a significant dry valley on the surface. In dry conditions the Sruh Croppa sinks in its bed soon after crossing the Tertiary Dyke.

In normal conditions the river continues to Sruh Croppa Bridge Sink 1 where most of the water sinks, a small amount continuing to Sruh Croppa Bridge Sink 2. As water flow increases the river sinks progressively further downstream, reaching Cat's Hole in flood conditions. In extreme flood it continues past this point but this is rare.
Notes:
The Sruh Croppa Cave is a feature of the Marble Arch Karst of the Marlbank-Cuilcagh Mountain Region. For general information on the features and systems of the Marble Arch Karst, including this one, and a reference list, see site description 'Marlbank-Cuilcagh Mountain Region; Marble Arch Karst'.
