Lisdoo Pit, north-east of Irvinestown, Co.Tyrone, where green mudstones (with miospores) of the Shanmullagh Formation were exposed.
Description:
A temporary excavation (by hand) on the north side of this pit revealed about 1.9m of strata. While most of the strata consist of green laminated mudstones, discrete thin beds of medium to coarse-grained sandstone occur in the lower half of the section together with numerous flaser laminations of sandstone and siltstone throughout the mudstones. A total of 8 mudstone samples from this excavation were processed and 5 contained moderately preserved miospores. A comprehensive list of the miospores from this locality is as follows: Ancistrospora spp., Ancyrospora sp.?, Apiculiretusispora sp., A. fructicosa Higgs 1975, Aurorospora spp., Bascaudaspora sp., B. collicula (Playford) Higgs, Clayton and Keegan 1988, Biharisporites sp., Brochotriletes sp., Crassispora spp., Cristatisporites sp., Converrucosisporites spp., Densosporites sp., Densosporites sp. cf. D. devonicus Richardson 1960, Dictyotriletes spp., Dictyotriletes sp.B., Dictyotriletes sp.C., Emphanisporites spp., Emphanisporites sp.A., Emphanisporites sp.B., E. rotatus (McGregor) McGregor 1973, Hymenozonotriletes sp., Hystricosisporites sp.?, Lophozonotriletes sp., Raistrickia sp., Retusotriletes spp., Rugospora sp., Verrucosisporites spp.?, and V. scurrus (Naumova) McGregor and Camfield 1982.
