Description:
The Polliniska-Pollnatagha-Pollprughlisk system is a series of interconnected fracture controlled rift passages entered via a number of deep vertical pots, of which only one, Polliniska, is currently an active sink. Pollprughlisk is the oldest sink, now completely abandoned and lying ~50m inside County Cavan. Pollnatagha and Polliniska lie ~10m inside County Fermanagh. The entrance of Pollnatagha no longer takes any sinking water, but a sizeable stream sinks at Polliniska and this water enters Pollnatagha 20m below the shaft entrance via a passage from Polliniska. Polliniska is 10m deep, Pollnatagha, 52m and Pollprughlisk 67m. Total horizontal development is estimated at 600m+.
Notes:
The Pollnatagha sinkhole is a part of the Polliniska-Pollnatagha- Pollprughlisk system of East Cuilcagh, in the Marlbank-Cuilcagh Mountain Region. For general information on the systems and features of this region, including this one, and a reference list, see site description 'Marlbank-Cuilcagh Mountain Region; East Cuilcagh Overview'.
