Site Description
Description:
The cliffs of Knockmore expose the massive carbonate mudbank facies. The many small cliffs to the southwest expose the bedded mudbank flank facies of the Knockmore limestone. These limestones generally dip gently to the south. The limestone pavements on Knockmore and on the bench running southeast towards Noon's Hole are the best developed pavements in Fermanagh. The bench also has a number of solution dolines (oriented on major fissures), potholes (e.g. Pollnamadda and Crinoid Cavern) and a line of small sinks fed from the sandstone uplands to the west.
Notes:
Pollnamadda is a feature of the Knockmore-Pollaraftra area of the Belmore, Ballintempo and Tullybrack Uplands. For general information on the systems and features of the Knockmore-Pollaraftra area, including this one, and a reference list, see site description 'Belmore, Ballintempo & Tullybrack Uplands; Knockmore-Pollaraftra'.
