Site Description
Description:
A 12-13km2 lowland unit containing NE/SW oriented streamlined rock ridges and broadly channelised planar-bedded pebble and cobble gravel terraces in the lower Faughan river valley. Topographic hollows present in the terraces have resulted in the formation of ponded water bodies, some of considerable (<0.3km2) size e.g. eastern and western Enagh Lough.

Interpretation:
The terraces are interpreted as post-depositionally dissected ice-proximal outwash. Kettling of the sediments has resulted from the burial (and subsequent melt-out) of substantial ice-front ice-blocks under rapidly aggrading debris. The lakes at Enagh are relatively good examples of a kettle-hole/lake association.
