| Description: | |
An extensively quarried 1km2 area of shallow dipping (at 10§ to 030§N) sand and gravel deltaic foresets located in a bedrock depression 1km west of Dungiven, on the southeastern footslopes of Altahullion Hill forming the eastern margin of the Dungiven outwash plain. Foreset heights reach ~142m O.D. The sandy ridge remaining of the delta forms a topographic high in the depression and is visible from over 6km away. The deposit is dissected by the Altmover Glen meltwater channel to the west, now occupied by the misfit Wood Burn. The channel's steep sides now form a secluded semi-mature wooded ecotope. | |
