Overgrown stream section, Glenlark, Co.Tyrone, June 1997.
Highlights:
Auriferous and base metal sulphide mineralization including sphalerite and galena.
Description:
This is a significant site in regional metallogenesis (Earls et al., 1996), of particular interest as it demonstrates both stratabound and cross-cutting sulphide mineralization rich in Zn, Pb, As and Au. However, exposure is limited to a stream section, which at the date of visiting in 1997 was largely overgrown.
Conclusions:
Future development of the site is probable and a senior member of the minerals industry (Garth Earls) does not wish the site to be designated. (Further commercial exploration at the site was undertaken in 2000.)
